Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja says appropriate action will be taken against UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his entourage for failing to give way to President Edgar Lungu’s motorcade.
In a statement, Kanganja said Hichilema put President Lungu’s life in danger.
“If what is portrayed in the picture circulating on social media concerning the motorcade of Hakainde Hichilema is a reflection of what truly happened , then it is very unfortunate because such actions of Failing to give way to a Presidential motorcade are tantamount to Obstruction of road way as well as endangering the life of the President. The officers acted in a reasonable way by overtaking Hakainde Hichilema’s motorcade to avoid loss of life. As Zambia Police, we are not going to sit and watch such lawlessness in this Country,” stated Kanganja.
“However, I am still waiting for a full report on what transpired from officers who were on the ground and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the State Security Act and other relevant pieces of Legislation.”
But President Lungu’s press aide Amos Chanda in an earlier statement said overtaking HH did not put the Head of State’s life at risk.
Amos also said President Lungu’s entourage did not want to fall into HH’s trap of causing a scene by forcing him off the road.
