THE Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has convicted and sentenced a maid of Chilenje Township to five years’ imprisonment for stabbing her employer’s eight-year-old daughter in the face with a knife. In this matter, Bathsheba Phiri was charged with assault on a child, an offence which attracts a minimum mandatory sentence of five years’ imprisonment, in line with the Children’s Code Act. Particulars of the offence were that Bathsheba, on March 30, 2025, in Lusaka, did assault H.C.N., a child under the age of 16.
