Lusaka, Zambia | 15 July 2026 – Yango Zambia, part of the global tech company Yango Group, has partnered with Micro Finance Zambia (MFZ) to introduce a motorcycle financing programme that will help Yango partner couriers transition from renting motorcycles to owning the assets they rely on to earn a living.
The programme is designed to provide partner couriers with access to financing for motorcycles used in delivery work, offering an alternative to rental arrangements that can limit long-term earning potential. By enabling couriers to own the motorcycles they use every day, the initiative aims to improve financial independence while creating more sustainable livelihoods.
Under the partnership, Micro Finance Zambia will provide and manage the financing, while Yango Zambia will facilitate access to the programme for eligible partner couriers using its platform. The financing solution is specifically designed for couriers who need motorcycles to fulfil delivery orders but may not qualify for conventional lending products.
The first phase of the programme will support 200 Yango partner couriers and is scheduled to begin in August 2026, with opportunities for further expansion to include partner drivers as the partnership evolves.
Commenting on the initiative, Kabanda Chewe, Country Head of Yango Zambia, said the initiative reflects Yango’s broader commitment to creating meaningful economic opportunities for the partner couriers and drivers who use its platform.
“Partner couriers and drivers are at the heart of the services that many Zambians rely on every day. Access to a motorcycle directly affects a courier’s ability to earn, and this programme creates a practical pathway from renting an asset to owning one. Through this new programme, we are empowering hardworking Zambians with greater financial independence, lower operating costs and more control over their future earnings,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of Micro Finance Zambia, Eng. James Chona said the financing solution was specifically designed to empower Zambians by providing productive assets rather than conventional cash loans.
“Our mission is to improve people’s lives through empowering finance. Through this partnership, partner couriers who may not have had access to traditional financing can now acquire a motorcycle that serves as a productive asset, enabling them to earn a sustainable income, build financial security and improve their quality of life. This is responsible financing because it equips people with an income-generating asset,” he said.
The initiative reinforces Yango’s commitment to improving the long-term wellbeing of partner couriers and drivers by expanding opportunities for financial independence and asset ownership. It also builds on Yango’s broader partner support initiatives in Zambia, which include free insurance for partner drivers, delivery couriers and passengers, the My Area feature that gives partner drivers greater flexibility to choose where they operate, as well as regular safety training, engagement sessions and tools that promote safer, more flexible work and improved service quality. The partnership represents another step towards building a safer, more sustainable and more inclusive mobility and delivery ecosystem in Zambia.
