THE Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) says over enrolment in health institutions is not a good trend and the council hopes that government gives guidance over the matter. HPCZ Registrar and Chief Executive Officer Fastone Goma says out of the 1,926 candidates that sat for the council’s February – March 2023 licensure examinations, 1,184 passed, representing 61.5 percent while 742 failed. Professor Goma said the licensure examinations demonstrated that 40 percent of the candidates that were trained neither had adequate skills and competencies nor the right attitudes to commence clinical practice.
