MINISTRY of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Hapenga Kabeta has acknowledged before the Public Accounts Committee that his ministry failed to meet its revenue collection projection by K13 million. And Kabeta says the ministry is in the process of digitising the cadastre system to prevent people from owning more than five licences, disclosing that some mine owners have almost 80 licences. The Auditor General’s report on the accounts of the Republic for the financial year ended December 31, 2022, revealed that a total estimate of revenue in amounts totaling K57,478,214.00 was made for mining licences, fees and surface rental charges and miscellaneous, against which amounts totalling K44,459,400.51 were collected, resulting in an under collection of K13,018,813.49.
