THE Human Rights Commission (HRC) has expressed concern over the high cases of unlawful detention of suspects, stating that 150 out of the 193 cases it reviewed this week involved unlawful detention. Speaking at a media briefing, Friday, HRC Chairperson Dr Pamela Sambo said according to Section 33 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, suspects should only be kept in detention for up to 24 hours, thereafter they must be taken to court. “This week, the Commission held its inaugural Cases Review Meeting.
