TRANSPORT sector unions and the Truckers Association of Zambia have signed a recognition agreement aimed at enabling workers to set wages and working conditions. The agreement will allow the sub-sector to set its own minimum wages and conditions of service through collective bargaining between employers and unions. Previously, minimum wages were set by government through statutory instruments. Going forward, the signing of the recognition agreement provides both parties with the opportunity to negotiate terms as provided for under the Industrial and Labour Relations Act, Chapter 269.
