THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has declared UPND candidate Chitambala Mwewa as the duly elected Mayor of Lusaka District. Mwewa polled 200,029 votes to defeat his closest rival, National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) candidate Gabriel Kibombwe, who secured 195,041 votes. Speaking during the declaration of results, Wednesday, Lusaka Returning Officer Oliver Muka announced that Independent candidate Simon Mwila finished third with 32,430 votes, followed by Independent candidate Namuchiya Banda with 7,444 votes. He further said Independent candidate Crispin Kabole polled 4,613 votes, while Citizens First candidate David Nyirenda came last with 3,017 votes.
