ON Monday we reported that cabinet had approved the temporary suspension of the Tazama Open Access framework for six months, from April to September 2026. In justifying this move, government said it was meant to ensure fuel security during the current emergency caused by rising global oil prices and supply disruptions linked to the Iran-United States-Israel conflict. In our subsequent editorial opinion, we agreed with views shared by Dr Kafula Mubanga and Yamfwa Mukanga, both of whom expressed concern that the decision would make the situation worse while creating room for corruption.
