Police have charged Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) chief executive officer Zindaba Soko with careless driving.
According to police, Soko caused an accident in Kafue on Wednesday after he failed to keep to his lane and in the process hit into a Rosa minibus injuring, nine people.
Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga told journalists in a statement that Soko had been charged with the offence of careless driving and that if he fails to pay an admission of guilt fine within seven days, the matter will be taken to court.
“Police in Kafue recorded a Road Traffic Accident yesterday 8th May,2019 at around 15:30hrs opposite Lake Petroleum filling station along kafue- lusaka road. Involved was Mr Zindaba Soko aged 42yrs who was driving a Ford Ranger Registration BAK 8838 from South to North which had damages on the right front part. Also involved was Mr Bwalya Moto 48 years old who was driving a Mitsubishi Rosa Public Service Vehicle registration ABR 3197 which was extensively damaged. Nine passengers were slightly injured,” Hamoonga stated.
Hamoonga explained that the accident happened when Soko failed to keep to his lane and hit into an on-coming bus.
“[He has been charged with] careless Driving. But this charge will only hold against him after he has paid Admission of Guilty within Seven days from yesterday. If he doesn’t the matter will go to Court,” stated Hamoonga.
