The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has cautioned unemployed teachers against falling prey to fraudsters claiming to be offering employment in non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
In a statement, TSC spokesperson Jane Mbambara revealed that the commission had noted an increase in fraudsters masquerading as NGOs on social media and were asking graduates to submit their personal details so that they lobby government to decentralize the recruitment of teachers.
“The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) wishes to caution unemployed graduates teachers to be wary of fraudsters in the name of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) masquerading as a solution to unemployed teachers. This is in reference to information circulating on various social media platforms urging all unemployed graduate teachers to submit their personal details to a named NGO for the purposes of lobbying government to decentralize the recruitment of teachers. The commission being the only institution mandated to recruit teachers in the public sector is fully aware of the numbers and necessary details of all qualified and unemployed teachers as it is a requirement by the law for all teachers in Zambia to register through the Teaching Council of Zambia,” Mbambara stated.
She advised that the recruitment of teachers is always advertised in both print and electronic media.
“Regarding the decentralization of recruitment of teachers, the public may wish to note that the Teaching Service Commission decentralized the 2018 teacher recruitment through the District Human Resource Recruitment Committees which received, shortlisted and selected eligible teachers. This decentralized recruitment model will continue whenever the commission recruits teachers. Further, information regarding teachers recruitment is always advertised in the print and electronic media. In view of the foregoing, the commission wishes to appeal to all graduate teachers to remain calm and not to fall prey to people requesting for their personal details,” stated Mbambara.
