Roan PF member of parliament Chishimba Kambwili has sued the Daily Nation Newspaper, its proprietor Richard Sakala and three reporters for libel.

In a statement of claim filed yesterday, Kambwili stated that Daily nation had carried false and malicious articles in September and October headlined “Kambwili implicated in US$4m Mongu Stadium Deal” and “Kambwili arrest ordeal”, among others.

He stated that the newspaper quoted PF cadre Munir Zulu who alleged that the construction of the US$4m Mongu Stadium was marred by corruption when he was Minister of Information.

Zulu also alleged that Michael Sata shunned the ground breaking ceremony because of the corruption involved in the project.

“The Plaintiff will aver at trial that the article is an orchestrated campaign by the Daily Nation Newspaper to seriously injure the Plaintiff’s reputation in the eyes of right thinking members of society and destroy his political career,” read the claim.

“The Plaintiff will further aver at trial that the said publication is intended at damaging his business interests within and outside Zambia.”

Kambwili is seeking damages for libel, damages for mental strain and anguish as well as an injunction restraining the Daily Nation or any of its agents from publishing similar libelous material against him.

The reporters jointly sued in this matter are Oscar Malipenga, Aaron Chizwayo and Simon Muntembe.
