The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has sentenced two men to three months imprisonment for stealing a double bed worth K700 from a carpenter.
In this matter, Jimmy Phiri, 22 and Kennedy Nyirenda, 23 had pleaded guilty to theft on Wednesday after stealing a double bed worth K700 on December 7, this year, property of Christopher Kunda.
The matter came up before magistrate Sakwanda, Thursday, for facts and sentencing.
Brief facts in this matter are that on the material day around 17:00 hours, Kunda who runs a carpentry workshop secured his furniture which included, four double beds and left the office.
However, the following day around 02:00 hours, he received a phone call where he was informed that his double bed had gone missing.
Kunda reported the matter police and investigations eventually led to the arrest of the two accused persons.
In mitigation, the two asked the court to be lenient saying if sent to jail, their families would suffer.
Phiri and Nyirenda added that sending them to jail would deprive them of the opportunity to continue with their education.
The court however sentenced them to three months imprisonment.
