ANTI-Corruption Commission (ACC) director general Gilbert Phiri says the conviction rate for corruption-related offences for the last five years is about 67 percent. Commenting on concerns by some stakeholders that the commission was quick to effect arrests but always failed to secure convictions in court mostly due to lack of sufficient evidence, Phiri said ACC didn’t intend to fail in its mission. He added that in 2021, ACC had 15 convictions and four acquittals, putting last year’s conviction rate at 79 per cent. “The rate of convictions for last year, 2021, is about 79%.
