Police in Lusaka are trying to hunt down a manslaughter accused Lusaka woman who escaped from detention.
When the matter came up for plea before judge Sitole Mwenda today, the prosecution applied to remove Nelia Phiri from an indictment in which she was jointly charged with Monica Phiri for two counts of manslaughter.
“Before the charge is explained, we have an application to make. We would like to amend the indictment to remove Nelia Phiri because she escaped from detention and police are still looking for her,” said a state prosecutor.
Judge Mwenda granted the application as there was no objection from the defence.
The court then explained to Monica that she was accused of causing the deaths of Angel Matomola and Cletus Matomola through negligence in November 2016.
Monica pleaded not guilty and the court set August 17 has been set for commencement of trail.
