MINES and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Dr Hapenga Kabeta has assured that the just-established Minerals Regulation Commission (MRC) will be free of political interference. Dr Kabeta says the establishment of the commission stems from the fact that government cannot play two conflicting roles of policy formulation and regulation. Government recently announced that it had undertaken a comprehensive institutional restructuring of the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, marked by the establishment of the new Minerals Regulation Commission (MRC).
