USA-based Zambia Under-20 call-up Peter Mashikini is in a last-minute battle to make the cut for 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup due to fitness levels.

Zambia Under-20 Beston Chambeshi says the midfielder from Grand View University is struggling to keep up with his teammates.

“I have seen him but I have to assess him very well. It is not easy, he has come at the time when the level of training is high,” Chambeshi said.

“We have to assess him physically and mentally.

“He needs to catch up he needs a lot of work. He has to work extra to catch up.”

Meanwhile, Chambeshi is set to name his final 21-member team for the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup this Wednesday.

Chambeshi will unveil his team before the team departs at the end of the week for the month-long training camp in Spain en-route to South Korea who will host the FIFA U20 World Cup from May 20 to June 11.

Zambia are in Group C where they will battle Iran, Costa Rica and Portugal.

Young Chipolopolo will face Portugal in their opening Group C match on May 21 in Jeju.
