An eight-year-old boy of Lusaka’s Ndeke Meanwood has died after being bitten by three dogs.

Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo stated, Sunday, that the boy was walking along the road when the owner of the dogs opened his gate and they descended on the juvenile.

“Police received a report of Sudden Death in which a male juvenile Gift Phiri aged eight (08) years has died after he was bitten by three dogs. The incident occurred on today 14th July, 2019 at 1250 hours at Ndeke Meanwood. It was reported that the owner of the dogs identified as Womba Samakayi opened the gate so that he could drive in, and in the process the dogs came out and attacked the victim who was walking on the road. An inquiry has been opened. The body of the victim is in Levy Mwanawasa Hospital mortuary,” Katongo stated.

“The dogs have been shot dead by Police. Owner of dogs in custody while the rest of his family members have been evacuated to safety as an incensed crowd threatened to cause damage to the property but officers quickly rushed there to save the situation.”

And Katongo stated that a 59-year-old farmer has handed himself over to police in connection to the murder of a woman aged between 22 and 27.

“A report of suspected murder was reported at Ngwerere Police Station in which unidentified body of a female aged between 22 and 27 years which was later identified as that of Natasha Mkandawire was discovered dumped in the bush on 10th July, 2019 around 06:00 hours in Mpandika area, Chief Mungule, Chibombo District. The body was found with a deep cut on the right side of her forehead. It is suspected that the body was just dumped there from elsewhere. Investigations were instituted in the matter and on 11th July, 2019 at 22:30 hours, a suspect identified as Benny Esau Zulu aged 59 years of Ngwerere surrendered himself to Lusaka Central Police Station as a suspect in the case. He is in Police custody and investigations have continued,” she stated.

Meanwhile, police in Lusaka have recovered the body of a 42-year-old woman who was reported missing by her husband.

“A report of missing person was made at Chilenje Police Station on 13th July, 2019 at 21:00 hours by a ZNS Col. Maybin Mundengo aged 45 also of Chalala that his wife Clare Namutenda aged 42 had gone missing the previous day after informing him that she was going to attend night prayers at unknown Church. Investigations were launched and two suspects thus a foreign traditional healer of Kabangwe identified Abraham Hussen Phiri aged 28 and Loze Saviour aged 28 were apprehended and the motor vehicle Toyota van guard Which was being driven by the same missing person was recovered. It was found with the said traditional doctor with number plates removed. Later, the body of Clare Namutenda, the missing person was found dumped in Kabangwe area at a grave yard with deep cuts on the fore head. They are detained in Police Custody,” stated Katongo.
