CIVIL Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) programmes manager Edward Musosa says government is unlikely to achieve the single-digit inflation rate target in 2022 if electricity and fuel subsidies are scrapped off. In an interview, Wednesday, Musosa said things didn’t look hopeful next year, especially for poor Zambians. “The government has notified the country that they are going to remove the fuel as well as the electricity subsidies, beginning the financial year 2022. They have also indicated that at this point, they have reached a point of no return because the 2022 budget does not factor in subsidizing electricity as well as fuel.
