THE Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) 2022 poverty assessments report shows an increase in poverty levels of 60 percent compared to 54.4% in 2015. According to the report, Muchinga Province had the highest proportion of the population that was poor at 82.6 percent, while Lusaka and Copperbelt had the lowest poverty levels at 27 percent and 35.9% respectively, though higher than in 2015. “At national level, the incidence of poverty was estimated at 60.0 percent in 2022 compared to 54.4 percent in 2015 (60 out of every 100 persons in Zambia were poor during the survey period).
