ACTING Foreign Affairs Minister Rodney Sikumba says the temporary suspension of certain US visas should not be construed as a political or diplomatic sanction against Zambia. Sikumba has clarified that the suspension does not affect Zambia’s diplomatic ties with the United States, nor does it disrupt trade, investment, development cooperation, or financial flows. In December last year, the US Department of State announced that, effective January 1, 2026, it would partially suspend visa issuance for nationals from several countries, including Zambia, Angola, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. The suspensions affect non-immigrant B-1/B-2 visitor visas, as well as F, M and J student and exchange visitor visas.
