CABINET says it has approved the temporary suspension of the Tazama Open Access framework for six months, from April to September 2026, in order to ensure fuel security during the current emergency caused by rising global oil prices and supply disruptions linked to the Iran-United States-Israel conflict and disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz. In the same breath, Cabinet says integrating the rehabilitation of the existing Tazama pipeline into the new Tanzania-Zambia Multi-Product Petroleum Pipeline project will improve efficiency, lower costs, strengthen regional cooperation and increase throughput from 1.1 million metric tonnes to four million metric tonnes per year.
