THE Lusaka High Court has upheld the one-year sentence handed to former Lumezi independent member of parliament Munir Zulu by the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for libel. High Court Judge Bonaventure Mbewe dismissed the appeal, stating that all of Zulu’s nine grounds of appeal lacked merit. In April this year, Zulu appealed his one-year sentence in the Lusaka High Court after being convicted by Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili on a charge of libel. In this matter, Zulu was accused of making defamatory remarks against Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, his Infrastructure counterpart Charles Milupi, and former RDA Board Chairperson Mulchand Kuntawala.
