One officer by the name of Sergeant Mulenga has died on the spot while others have sustained injuries in an accident involving a presidential motorcade vehicle which overturned due to a tyre burst in Mpika this evening.

Explaining the accident in a telephone interview, Central Province police commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi said the fatality involved motor vehicle registration number DAA 6496.

Kamukoshi has also revealed that other presidential entourage officers who survived the accident were still being attended to at Serenje district hospital.

“I can confirm that it is true we have recorded a fatal accident which occurred about 145 kilometres from Mpika in the direction of Serenje. It is a fatality involving car registration number DAA 6496 silver in colour which overturned after a tyre burst. Unfortunately we have lost an officer by the name of Sergeant Mulenga. The rest of the officers are being attended to in Serenje District Hospital, ” Kamukoshi said.

“In the meantime, Muchinga has also come on board and they could take up because proximity is nearer to Muchinga province.”
