LANDS and Natural Resources Minister Elijah Muchima says the new dawn government cannot cushion the high fuel prices because coffers were completely empty when it assumed power. In an interview, Wednesday, Muchima said people should learn to appreciate what the government is doing to address poverty levels in the country. “We are dealing with a product that is not mined in Zambia. We don’t produce any fuel. If there is a distortion on the international market, it affects us heavily. Let’s not pretend. We should not pretend, these are waves. But again the only problem is this, that the coffers were completely empty and the government cannot cushion us. The government cannot cushion us because we don’t have the money....
