WE have read, with great surprise, the reasons advanced by Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa for why fighting corruption is such a difficult task. While we agree that corruption is inherently secretive and complex, that cannot and must not become the fallback excuse for inaction or selective enforcement. The reality is simple: every government in the world faces this same challenge. What distinguishes serious administrations from unserious ones is the political will to follow through regardless of the difficulty. Yes, corruption hides in the shadows, but that’s exactly why countries create law enforcement agencies, intelligence wings, and anti-corruption commissions, to break through the veil of secrecy.
