Police have arrested a 31-year-old man of Luanshya’s Zaoni street identified as Fred Maanya for Defamation of the President.

In a statement, Monday, Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said the suspect phoned-in during a live programme on Millennium Radio on March 28 and issued derogatory remarks against President Edgar Lungu.

Katongo stated that the suspect introduced himself as Chanda from Kabwe when in-fact, his real name is Fred Maanya from Lunshya.

“The suspect is alleged to have called the radio Station where he introduced himself as Chanda from Kabwe and later used derogatory remarks on the Republican President. Investigations revealed that the suspect was not Chanda but Fred Maanya of Luanshya and not Kabwe as he suggested,” stated Katongo.

And Katongo stated that Maanya has since been detained in police custody and will appear in court soon.
