POLICE in Chadiza district have arrested two people in connection with the murder of a 31-year-old woman.

The woman, who was accused of stealing a phone by the two suspects, was discovered dead by her two children on Sunday around 20:00 hours.

Eastern Province Acting Police Commanding Officer Davies Simwanza identified the deceased as Adraida Daka of Kamwala Compound in Chief Zingalume’s area.

Simwanza said the matter was reported to the police by Norman Shumba of the same compound, who is a member of Chadiza Crime Prevention Unit.

“Brief facts are that on Sunday at around 07:00 hours, the deceased was confronted by male suspect Paul Zulu aged 22 and Edson Banda aged 27 both of Kamwala Compound at her house and accused her of being behind the theft of Paul Zulu’s phone. They left the house when the accused promised to pay back,” he stated.

Simwanza said the two later returned to the deceased’s house and continued accusing her of having stolen the phone in the presence of her two male children, aged 10 and 12.

“The deceased’s children later left and went to play leaving their mother and the two visitors still arguing over the phone and only returned home at around 18:00 hours when they found their mother lying in a pool of blood in the sitting room upon opening the door which was tied from outside,” he said.

Simwanza said Police later rushed to the scene and picked up the body which has since been deposited in the Chadiza District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The two suspects are currently in police custody to help with investigations.
