A joint operation led by Gender Division Permanent Secretary, Mainga Kabika, has closed an illegal Mukanda circumcision camp in Livingstone. Traditionally, a Mukanda camp is used to initiate boys into adulthood once they reach puberty. The boys are taught several lessons by their elders and circumcised before graduating from the camp. Addressing the media, Kabika revealed that 48 children had been rescued from the camp. “These people put up this Mukanda without permission. Because the gentleman is a Mbunda and he is from Kaoma, the owner of the Mukanda. So, we called the Mbunda royal establishment yesterday.
