THE request from ZNBC Board Chairperson Bishop Joseph Kazhila that citizens must sacrifice their resources to pay an increased TV levy to sustain the national broadcaster cannot pass without comment. This proposition, supported by the Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa, appears deeply inconsiderate and disconnected from the reality of ZNBC’s historical and self-inflicted financial woes. Demanding more from citizens to bail out the broadcaster is unjustifiable, especially when one considers the series of imprudent decisions that led to this predicament.
