THE Lusaka High Court has sentenced a Lusaka resident who caused the death of former Kabwata UPND MP Levy Mkandawire through dangerous driving in November last year to 12 months simple imprisonment. But the deceased’s family has lamented that the sentence is too lenient considering the gravity of the accident. High Court Judge Ruth Chibbabbuka said although Alick Kalengo, 51, was the first offender and who did not waste the court’s time by admitting the charge, he drove in a careless manner in that he first hit a cyclist before causing the accident which led to Mkandawire’s death.
