Green Buffaloes athletes dominated Sunday’s Area Board competition held in Lusaka, winning both gold and silver as five of its competitors finished in the top ten. The 10 kilometre race was organised by Zambia Amateur Association (ZAA)
Edward Mwanza who also won last year’s Lafarge’s International 21 kilometres won gold while Paul Ngulube who is originally a middle race athlete won silver. Both athletes are from Green Buffaloes.
Mwanza finished with a personal best of 33 minutes 9 seconds while Ngulube managed 33 minutes 33 seconds. Zambia National Service(ZNS) won third position with fourth position going to Zambia Air Force (ZAF).
Other Buffaloes’ athletes in the top 10 were Brenani Mwiinga who finished seventh, Daniel Ngulube on eighth position and Ogen Chitambo who finished 9th.
Buffaloes coach Innocent Haatuleke could not hide his excitement over his boys’ performance.
“I’m mostly happy because apart from Mwanza and Chitambo, I used middle race runners and they did exceptionally well. This does not mean that I will make them long distance runners permanently, I just wanted to see if we as a club had other options in case of anything. I’m proud of their performance,” said Haatuleke.
Other clubs that competed include Nakambala, Prisons of Kabwe, Solwezi athletics clubs, Zambia Police, Red Arrows and Kamfinsa Sports Club.
