Benson Kolala’s 17th minute goal and Prince Mumba’s 24th strike were enough to guide the Zambia Under-20 national team to a 2-0 triumph over Congo DR at the on-going Mopani Mines COSAFA tournament at Nkana stadium yesterday in Kitwe.
It was a thunderous start for both teams with Congo DR threatening a goal opportunity in just three minutes of action through Batista.
As players settled, Zambia made its first real attempt at goal 15th minute, but Edward Chilufya’s shot narrowly went wide.
The young Copper Bullets made more attempts to attack with decent defending tactics that attracted no foul. In the 17th minute, Zambia found the back of the net through Benson Kolala who connected from a good aerial pass.
It was not long after Kolala’s goal that Prince Mumba who scored a brace in the opening match against Malawi, doubled the lead for young Chipolopolo in 24th minute.
Congo DR lads pressured the Zambian defence towards the end of the first half until Gideon Miyanda got red carded for a foul against Jackson Muleka in the 34th minute.
In the second half, Lameck Banda nailed a thunderbolt from outside the 18 box but the Congo DR goalie parried it for a corner in the 50th minute. Banda however got withdrawn for Mwiya Malumo in the 63rd minute following an injury.
In the 75th minute, Klings Kangwa was withdrawn for Clinton Mabula but the substitution added little value as the game ended 2-0.
