SOME residents of Mwansabombwe district have told police that a seven-year-old boy was found hanging from a guava tree on Tuesday.
Luapula Province police commissioner Chilije Nyirenda confirmed this to News Diggers in an interview, but ruled out suicide saying preliminary forensic investigations found no marks on his body to suggest that he had died by hanging.
“What is there is that the boy hanged himself to a Guava tree. He is seven years old. Police were informed of the incident and they advised the people to wait for the police to arrive at the scene. Unfortunately, by the time police arrived at the scene, they had removed the boy or the body from the tree. They found the boy laying on the ground. They checked on the body and they found that there were no marks that can lead to suicide,” said Nyirenda.
“There were some mucus coming out from the mouth and the nose that’s all. From there, the police took the body to the mortuary in Mbereshi at Mbereshi mission hospital. That police are waiting to do a post mortem, and after that we will see the way forward but for now, we have instituted some investigations into the matter to find out the actual cause of the death because preliminary forensic investigations showing that there was nothing that suggested that the boy was hanging. So that’s what’s there for now.”
