WE have laws in this country that are either designed to repress dissent or are simply abused to achieve the same goal. The Public Order Act is one such legislation. Defamation of the president was another. When it was announced that defamation of the president had been abolished, the entire country thought progress was being made to ensure more freedom of expression. Alas, little did people know that the government was simply changing strategies. Now, critics are charged with sedition, libel, hate speech, cybercrimes, and whatever else pleases our leaders on any given occasion, as the government continues its intense desire to gag uncomfortable voices of dissent.
