THE Constitutional Court has allowed constitutional lawyer John Sangwa to appear in a matter in which a youth activist is challenging Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to contest future elections as a friend of the court. According to sources, Sangwa wants to argue before the court that Lungu is eligible to contest the 2026 elections as the court has already ruled on the matter. In this matter, Michelo Chizombe wants a declaration that Lungu is not eligible to contest any future presidential elections. Chizombe, who also cited ECZ and the Attorney General as respondents, also wants the court to declare that Lungu’s participation in the August 2021 general elections was unconstitutional.
