A 19-year-old woman of Misisi Compound has denied stealing a plasma television worth over K3,000 in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, from a man who allegedly refused to pay for her services after the two had sex.
In this matter, Bupe Kasonde is charged with one count of house breaking and theft and another count of escape from lawful custody.
In the first count, it is alleged that on July 20, 2019 in Lusaka, Kasonde with intent to steal, broke and entered into the dwelling house of William Chirwa and stole a Concord plasma television set valued at K3,200, belonging to the said Chirwa.
And in count two, it’s alleged that on July 21, 2019 in Lusaka, Kasonde whilst in custody of woman constable Malupenga at Embassy Police in Chawama, did escape from such custody.
And when the matter came up for plea before chief resident magistrate Lameck Mwale, Wednesday, Kasonde denied stealing the TV but admitted to the charge of escaping from lawful custody.
She told the court in respect of the charge of house breaking and theft, that she broke into the complainant’s house and got the television set because he never paid her after having sex with her.
Kasonde said she met Chirwa at a bar who later booked her for her services but added that after having sex with her, he refused to pay.
The accused said that led her to break into his house when he was not around.
To the charge of escaping from lawful custody, Kasonde said it was the influence of alcohol that made her escape.
She told the court that she asked constable Malupenga for permission to use the toilets at Cosmopolitan Mall but when it was granted, she ran away.
The matter comes up on August 16, 2019 for facts in respect of count two and mention and setting of trial date in respect of count one.
