An accident at Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) in Chingola has claimed the life of a KCM business partner employee, according to Vedanta Africa Base Metals.
According to a statement, the accident occurred at Konkola Mine, Shaft 4 in Chililabombwe, Wednesday.
“It is with great sadness that Vedanta Africa Base Metals confirms that an accident at Vedanta’s Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) on Thursday July 26 has claimed the life of a KCM business partner employee. No one else was injured in the incident that occurred at Konkola Mine, Shaft 4 in Chililabombwe. The deceased’s next-of-kin has been informed, and his details are being withheld to protect the privacy of his family,” read the statement issued by KCM’s general manager corporate affairs Eugene Chungu, Thursday.
“All work at Konkola Underground Mine Shaft 4 has been halted while investigations – involving the local emergency services, police, the Mine Safety Department, our representative trade unions and senior KCM Management and operations structures – are underway. All of us at KCM and Vedanta are devastated by the news, and commit to assisting the family of the deceased during and after this difficult period. Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues and to the entire KCM team.”
