MOPANI Copper Mines says it has no intention of going on care and maintenance after some of its major contractors undertaking production underground in Kitwe and Mufulira decided to send their employees on perceived forced leave, while others have had their contracts terminated. The development follows erratic payments to contractors by the financially struggling mine. Meanwhile, the Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) has requested Rothschild & Co of South Africa which was engaged by ZCCM-IH to assist with the strategic review of Mopani Copper Mines to expedite the evaluation process.
