YESTERDAY we expressed concern that while the UPND government is taking long strides towards attracting foreign direct investment, it has significantly neglected the plight of the local businesses, which is contrary to the commitment they made during campaigns. Of course we understand that the party has only been in power for six months and the obvious excuse would be that there is still time for the President to meet with the private sector. But we wonder why this is taking so long to achieve given that logistically and logically, it is easier and wiser to first engage the private sector back home to dialogue on areas of concern.
