IF there was a winner from the 2021 general elections other than the political party that is now in power, it was the media. The fourth Estate was on the verge of collapse under the Patriotic Front administration. Seeing how its leaders are now relying on the same media houses that they strove to close down not long ago is a demonstration of how selfish and self-centered politicians can be. But we should not be stupefied into thinking that the UPND government means no harm to the media. As soon as the truth becomes unbearable, we expect to see a resurgence of threats on newspapers, television and radio stations. We need to communicate a message to our leaders in government...
