Copperbelt University (CBU) Registrar Hellen Mukumba has informed university staff that their April, 2019, salaries will be delayed.
In an internal memo dated April 26, 2019, addressed to all members of staff, Mukumba stated that the delays were due to circumstances beyond management’s control.
She, however, assured staff that management was doing everything possible to ensure workers got their salaries.
“This serves to inform all members of staff of the Copperbelt University that due to circumstances beyond the institution’s control, April, 2019, salaries will be delayed. Management is doing everything possible to ensure that salaries are paid soon. Management regrets the inconvenience this unfortunate circumstance may cause,” stated Mukumba.
And impeccable sources at UNZA say their salaries will also be delayed indefinitely.
“We are also expecting to see a similar memo here,” said the source.
Government has for the past few months been struggling to fund higher learning institutions due to huge debt repayment demands.
