I know that Zambia is very focused on environmental protection, but you are not doing as good as the Kenyans,” says .
Catherine Lu, a representative of a Chinese construction company called “African Brothers Corporation” feels Zambia is not as strict as Kenya in terms of enforcing environmental laws.
Her company is putting up a cement manufacturing plant south east of Lusaka. But when she was questioned about whether the Chinese firm took an Environmental Impact Assessment report to ZEMA for approval, she explained that another company was subcontracted to pursue that, adding that Zambia was not doing good in environmental protection compared to Kenya.
In this audio, Lu explains why villagers were pushed away from their land while those that resisted were having their buildings demolished.
