THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has extended the 2024 crop marketing season by 30 days. This means that the crop marketing season which opened on May 1 and was initially expected to close on October 31, will now end on November 30, 2024. In a statement, Friday, FRA Executive Director Mwansa Chamatete explained that the extension was necessitated by market dynamics experienced this year, caused mainly by the El Niño induced drought. “Pursuant to Section 22 (3) of the Food Reserve Act No. 6 of 2020, the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) is required every year to announce its intention of purchasing selected agricultural crops during the marketing season.
