The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has adjourned to May 28, for mention, a matter in which NDC leader Chishimba Kambwili is charged with 34 counts of being in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime involving over K5 million.
When the matter came up yesterday, trial magistrate Mwaka Mikalile was not available and magistrate Irene Wishimanga adjourned the case to May 28 for mention and June 4, 2018, for commencement of trial.
Kambwili, who pleaded not guilty on all counts, was accompanied by NDC national youth chairperson Charles Kabwita, his lawyer Christopher Mundia and some party members.
One of the offenses on the indictment is that on August 18th, 2016, Kambwili had K495,000 in his account suspected to be proceeds of crime. The Roan Member of Parliament is in another account accused of having been in possession of 180 thousand Kwacha, property suspected to be proceeds of crime. All the money mentioned in the thirty-four counts is said to have been in an account that is domiciled at the Zambia National Commercial Bank.
