A wedding in Zambia hardly passes without an authentic kalindula beat being belted out. In Lusaka, there is basically no weekend that goes by without any of the legendary hits reverberating out of the amplified speakers at social gatherings. A kitchen party or Chilanga mulilo is a flop if Angela Nyirenda music doesn’t feature. This is music that even the younger generation of the 80s enjoys playing in their quiet times. Ironically, it is a genre of music that is on its dying bed. Kalindula, much as it never leaves the old school playlist, is under threat of extinction due to stagnation by composers.
