Economy doesn’t bother Lungu, as long as he eats – Kambwili

National Democratic Congress (NDC) president Chishimba Kambwili says President Edgar Lungu is not fit to be Head of State because he has failed to address several economic challenges Zambians are facing.

And Kambwili has charged that PF secretary general Davies Mwila should go in the Guinness World Book of Records as being the worst party secretary general in the world.

In an interview, Kambwili said it is clear that President Lungu was not bothered by the current economic challenges in the country as evidenced by his continued silence.

“I have told you the man was not ready to be President; the man does not fit to be President; the man is forcing himself to be President! The issues that we are going through, we expect the President to address the country through a press conference or even radio and TV address, but he doesn’t care! The man has made so much money. He is living in comfort; he flies all over the world when he feels like,” Kambwili said.

“Does it bother him if you are sleeping on an empty tummy? As long as he eats, does it matter to him when you have not eaten? If the President cannot talk on these that we are going through when we talk, what issues will he talk about because the issues of mealie meal prices are extremely important to the nation because that is the staple food. Now, if the President cannot say any thing, the price of mealie meal is just sky rocketing.”

He said the continued failure to handle the hunger situation is an indication that the country had a failed leadership.

“People in Choma, two days ago, we saw them gathering to try and buy maize which is not there and yet they are saying we don’t want to declare hunger as a national disaster because we are managing. Now, one wonders what they are managing. This is where Zambians should see whether we have a leadership or not…So, I leave it to the people of Zambia to see whether they have got a leadership that is worth its salt,” Kambwili added.

And Kambwili, the former Roan PF member of parliament and chief government spokesperson, said what Mwila instructed the PF youths to do was illegal.

“I have said that what they wanted to do is illegal! It is not backed by any law. I have never seen in my whole life where police have given a permit for people to go and demonstrate at a private residence. I have never seen such kind of thing, but that is PF for you; that is the leadership of PF; that is their thinking capability, that is what goes round in their heads. Can you believe yourselves that Mwila (Davies) can give such a directive? Can you believe that Moonga (Paul) provincial chairman can give such a directive?” Kambwili wondered.

“He (Moonga) says I insult, but didn’t he call me a lunatic, ‘Kambwili is too fat to reason’, you see what I am trying to say? He who goes to equity must come with clean hands. He was just calling HH (Hakainde Hichilema) the other time ‘that HH is a rat!’ So, how can they demonstrate against something that is neither here nor there? But anyway, that is PF for you. And I think Mwila must go into the Guinness Book of World Records as the most unreasonable and useless secretary general of the ruling party in the world for his actions!”

He said the unlawful directives issued by both Mwila and Moonga were a serious indictment on President Lungu.

“And I will forgive Mwila because as far as I am concerned, Mwila is an empty tin, but whatever they do is an indictment on the President because the President is quiet! The secretary general is issuing illegal instructions and the President is conspicuously quiet, as he has been conspicuously quiet over the price of mealie meal and the general suffering of the people,” Kambwili said.

When asked if he will apologize for allegedly insulting the President, Kambwili insisted that he did not insult anyone.

“I have never insulted anybody. First and foremost, and I don’t want to talk about that matter [because it] is in court, but I never insulted anybody; my mind is very free. I never insulted anybody so there is no way I can apologize, apologize for what?” asked Kambwili.
