A TEACHER at Kabushi Basic School has committed suicide after allegedly failing to pay back a K2,000 debt.

Police have disclosed that Denis Kasanda, 39, allegedly opted to take his life after he failed to pay the debt which he had acquired on January 8, 2022.

Copperbelt acting commanding officer Tresphord Kasale confirmed the incident to journalists in Ndola.

He said a Reverend of Mushili reported that he found a dead body in a maize field near an energy transmission pole line in Ndola.

“Facts of the matter are that the said teacher on January 8, this year got a credit of K2,250 from Lawrence Siwakwi and since then failed to pay back,” Kasale said.

He said on Tuesday, Kasanda was called around 10:00 hours by Siwakwi, who asked him when he was going to pay back the money, but he just promised that “any day”.

Kasale said officers rushed to the scene and found the body lying on the ground facing upward.

“The body was checked and it had no physical injuries. Then besides his body, there was an empty bottle of mojo and in the pockets of his trousers there was an empty bottle of 100 ml of doom,” said Kasale.

Kasale said the deceased’s body was lying in Ndola Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
