HEALTH Minister Sylvia Masebo says more than 7,000 Zambians die from tobacco related deaths annually. Speaking during the Gates Core Partners Meeting Conference on the control of tobacco, Thursday, Masebo said out of 7,000 deaths, 60 percent of the individuals were below the age of 70. “In the year 2000, the number of tobacco smokers in the afro region was estimated to be 52 million. In 2015, this number increased to 66 million and it is projected to increase to 84 million in the year 2025. This will be a 61.5 percent increase in the number of smokers compared to the year 2000.
