THE pendency of cases in our courts of law is worrying. The number of people (some of them innocent) who are being kept in remand prisons without a chance to be heard is heartbreaking. It is true that there is an urgent need for a quick and speedy resolution of criminal cases so that justice can be served on the people. We must always remember that the Judiciary is the last resort for justice for the common man. It is sad that madam Mumbi Phiri is being denied an opportunity to appear in court for trial and we don’t see any reason why this is the case apart from the fact that there is political influence to maintain the status...
